More Than English international summer school for ambitious students 11-17 years old (July-August 2020)

Let’s start with the biggest campus I’ve ever seen, it’s name is Moor Park. There is a swimming pool, a football stadium and tennis courts. It’s an amazing campus.

As far as the accommodation, my bedroom is really nice but too small for five people. The people in my room are really cool there are two Spanish and two French. I speak French with my French roommate but the Spanish always speak Spanish.

As far as the English lessons, this is really nice and interesting but there are four Spanish people in my class and they sometimes speak Spanish. The lessons are very good because we practice speaking and writing.

As for the Get Ahead options, I chose film making and tennis. Film making was really cool and funny but sometimes I wanted to play football. I don’t know why but sometimes I want to. I would like to change it, if there was this option we could try all the options.

We did many activities outside the campus and that’s really cool. We went to the cinema, bowling and we took many trips like Birmingham and Liverpool. When we were there we could do a lot of shopping and visit museums. We have a lot of choice and I love it!

In the campus there are many nationalities (Romanian, France, Germany) but there are too many Spanish and Italian people. I loved the international experience, it was nice.

Joao Felipe - Brazil - review

I’ve been at More Than English since the 8th July and I’m the first day I made some friends. The school’s format is very interactive and it makes us speak English all the time.
One of the interactive points is choosing our activities, showing options of activities for us is important to develop decision skills.
On the other hand, there are some points of activities that are important to improve. As a 2 or weeks course, it’s necessary to have different activities, but depending on the child’s personality, some activities can’t be good for the child, and they may have to choose between activities that he or she doesn’t want to do. Nevertheless, students have to improve communication skills, which is awesome to help them. English is “used” all the time, you’ll feel immense on the language. The staff members are very kind with us and try to help as much as possible.
Excursions are amazing, and the way that you’re divided. Unfortunately, I really want to go everywhere but it’s hard to choose. For me the excursions are the best when over 14’s can walk around without staff member. One point that could be improved on excursions is the timing as we only had a limited time for shopping.
One point to put in evidence is education, the teachers are very good they know about our country, the classes help us improve our vocabulary. It’s a funny hour we develop relationships. if we don’t know a word =, they’ll try to explain in the best way possible. Especially, Lucy, my teacher, her lessons are interesting and she wants to know our opinion by talking with us. She is the best English teacher I’ve ever had. I cannot forget about get ahead option, in the first week I chose the business challenge, it was really interesting. Kelvin and Jay are very good teachers.
Ill recommend More Than English to everyone who wants to do a summer camp. People are organised and the school is beautiful.
I have to congratulate house parents for being so patient with us especially Jana.
It’s been an amazing experience.

More Than English

Let’s start with the amazing campus! The school is very huge. When I arrived, I was impressed. The school has big gardens, a swimming pool, two tennis courts and two football pitches. Also, there are lots of rooms.

As far as the accommodation, I like my room! It’s very beautiful and the name is Rose. The room is big and all of the walls are pink. The bed is not bad, it’s comfortable. I share the room with five other students from different countries; such as, Spain, Italy and Lebanon. Plus, the house parents (Valentina and Becky) are so kind!

As for the English lessons, they are interesting! Everyday we do different things and we learn new things. Also, we learnt new vocabulary and the teacher made sure we had learnt the word with a box game.

I really liked the Get Ahead sports options. Last week, I chose tennis and I had a great time. This week I’m going to do soccer and I really like it. I couldn’t believe that in just one week the tennis teacher is my friend. He is very funny, I taught his some words in Spanish and it was fun to hear.

Another big plus is the mix of nationalities. I met other teenagers from all over the world; like: Italy, Lebanon, Germany, Spain, France, Lithuania and Ukraine. I became good friends with all the people, but especially with the girls from Italy, Lebanon and Spain.

In addition to the study options, we had a lot of choice on the excursions and activities too. Last week, we did three trips. For example, on Wednesday I went shopping in Birmingham . On Saturday I went to Liverpool to the Beatles museum, it was interesting. On Sunday we went to Ludlow castle. It was really nice and with great views. Also, we did a lot of activities like: hockey, benchball, tennis and football.

All in all, More Than English was perfect to learn English and have fun at the same time. Finally, I’m going back home with new international friends!

More Than English

The campus is located in the countryside so it's very climatical. The buildings are old but solid. The classrooms are modern with interactive white boards.

We sleep in our rooms with students from different countries. The rooms are really nice, High Street is the best. But that isn't very important because we don't spend a lot of time in them.

For breakfast we always get cereal, toast and something hot to eat for example scrambled egg, porridge, bacon. For lunch and dinner the chef prepares food from different countries. Typical British fish and chips, Italian pasta or Mexican wraps. We always get dessert like cake. You can always choose some salads. There are also options for vegans and vegetarians.

We met students from different countries, different cultures and languages. That's very cool. I made lots of friends and we will definitely stay in touch.

The teachers are great. We learned lots of fun things for example how to write a great story, meditation and we also did a debate about topics that are important for us. Get ahead options are very fun. It's great that you can choose what ever class or activity you want because you can learn topics that interest you.
All in all, More than English is really a great school. I loved it here. It was the best camp in my life even though I had to go to school. I had a lot of fun. It was a great experience that I will remember for a long time.

Moor Park

I think the campus is really great, because it's very big and has lots of enjoyable places, there is a swimming pool, tennis courts, really huge gardens. The bedrooms are really amazing, and I loved mine, it's really big and my roommates were really nice and from different countries so we called all practice our English.

The food was different from what I'm used to but this way I had the chance of tasting new things, some that I liked and some others that I didn't like. But in general it was good.

The lessons were really great, because we were learning new things but also having some fun. We have practice at speaking, writing, in different and original way and I think that all of us have improved.

In my opinion the get Ahead activities are very fun and we had many different options to choose so everybody could do what they enjoyed the most. The first week I did business and it was a very great experience, and I think it was really worth choosing that option.
International experience. It was really amazing to have people from so many different countries and be able to speak in one language. We also have learned a lot of things about the other countries like traditions, food, and many other interesting facts.

All in all, this summer school has been incredible, because here I have made new friends from different countries and I have had a really great time in all the activities and trips. I have improved my speaking and writing skills and had several new experiences.

Life changing experience in which I am going to take part until they do not want me anymore (because I will be too old, of course). Waking up every morning to the same friendly, cheerful yet academic atmosphere is something I will look forward to for the next years as well. As a returning student, I can say my expectations were exceeded again and that now, writing this review, I cannot describe how quickly the past two weeks have gone by. The only one complaint I have is that the clocks around here seem to be out of order as times fly by during class, Get Ahead and Club Time. See you next year!

Campus
For me the campus is beautiful because the palace is very old and there are many things like a swimming pool, a theatre, a football pitch, and there are big rooms with fantastic bedsAs for the accommodation I loved my bedroom! It was big and cool. I shared my bedroom with 4 other students who arrived from Spain, Ukraine, Croatia and Italy. In my bedroom I spoke English a lot and this is so fantastic.
Food
Food is a problem, because I’m disgusted with the food. Breakfast is nice because there are cereals, milk, marmalade and eggs; all things I love , but for lunch and dinner it’s a disaster, because I don’t like some British food, for example, bacon and vegetables.
Core English lessons
The English lessons were fantastic! The teachers were very cool and happy. Every day we did many things and I understood the lessons.
Get Ahead lessons
I love the Get Ahead options, because we chose film, football, golf and other exciting options. I have played golf and it’s fantastic because I have never played this sport.
International experience
In this school there is a mix of nationalities. I met other teenagers from France, Spain, Brazil, Ukraine, Russia, Lebanon, Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland and Italy.

Campus
Moor Park is a very big school with a swimming pool, football pitch, hockey pitch, tennis pitch, a big house about 400 years old, big school grounds.
Accommodation
I like my bedroom. It’s very big with sofas and I share it with an Italian guy, a Russian guy, a Brazilian and two French guys.
Food
The food in my opinion is the only bad thing, many times the flavour is not good and the aspect seems a bit disgusting.
Core English lessons
English lessons are god, dynamic, is not the typical that the teacher is explaining all the time.
Get ahead lessons
Get ahead lessons are great. I’ve chosen tennis and football, the coach was great and we have a lot of fun.
International experience:
As I said before, in my room we have 5 nationalities and in my class 8 nationalities. So al the time we are speaking English.
Special features
The thing is to choose what we wanted to do in all aspects in excursions (paintball or zip lining, tourist guides ( Liverpool or Bath, London or Cardiff) and of each place different touristic routes (Liverpool: Titanic or Beatles).

Sumiyasuren\'s Review

More Than English is my first summer school in my whole life. That’s why I didn’t know anything about the summer school. So, it means I had no expectations.
Since I got here I made quite a few friends who are from many different countries. It really helped me to open myself not being shy or alone.
I had quite a big problem with my weight. The weight problem is because of not really doing exercise. And in More Than English I started doing activities which I haven’t tried before and it has helped me socialise with people.
For using my English in different ways, I chose leadership. My expectations of leadership were only learning business like writing money pages. But it wasn’t like that. On the first week, we opened our own businesses and now in the second week we are learning speech.
But in the beginning, I thought like “why I am here everyday I need to wake up in the morning in the summer and have lessons” But now I get the idea of summer school. Spending time really active not only sleeping half the day but making friends from other countries and learning about the cultures. I had a lot of experience from this school.

Lunna\'s Review

More Than English Summer School is designed to encourage teenagers to use English in new ways. There you can have various experiences with people from other countries and different cultures.
The school has a lot of fun activities like zorb football, bench ball, tag archery and capture the flag, it also has excursions to different cities in England such as Birmingham, Bath, Liverpool and The Beatles Museum or Titanic museum, London or Cardiff.
One of the best experiences is visiting Harry Potter, it is magical but you can also visit Ludlow’s castle. The school already has camp fires, games and a barbeque.
The lessons in More Than English summer school are really fun and the teachers are very good, it also has get ahead options for the afternoon classes such as football, dance and sports like golf and tennis. I would recommend it.
